The Crawdaddy Club - famous for the Rollin' Stone residency

The Station Hotel is now called Edwards and can be found at 1 Kew Road, Richmond, directly opposite Richmond Station.

But once upon a time it was the location for an amazing venue - The Crawdaddy Club - which became famous as the place where the Rollin' Stones played a residency.

And it was here in April 1963 that Andrew Loog Oldham squeezed down the long alley to the back of the hotel and entrance, passing as he did one 'Michael Phillip Jagger' and 'Chrissie Shrimpton' who were 'liaising', to climb into a dark, sweaty room where he stood in anticipation...

And it was soon that he witnessed for the first time, the Rollin' Stones take to the stage - all six of them - and play the sounds of R'n'B - Andrew had never seen anything like it!

'They came on to me... all my preparations, ambitions and desires had met their purpose'. Andrew was in love and had heard the anthem of a national sound, and from this point would become an integral part of the bands success and growth. This was history in the making!

Due to the success of the Stones, however, the Crawdaddy later moved to Richmond Athletic Ground a few months later.

Location: The Station Hotel, 1 Kew Road, Richmond, TW9 2NQ
