Len Goodman's East End
Strictly Come Dancing's Len Goodman grew up here.
Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman, comes from an East End family that lived in a house (now demolished) on this site. The street was called Harold Street, and all that remains is the name of this block.
Len was born here in a 2 up 2 down with his parents and his maternal grandparents.
His father was an electrician and his grandfather Albert Eldridge was a costermonger - a street trader dealing in fruit and vegetables. Len was a real-life barrow boy and his stall was on Bethnal Green Road.
He got injured in his youth playing football and took up dancing during his recovery and found it a good place to meet girls.
He went on to become a ballroom champion and an illustrious dancing career. He runs a club in Dartford.
In a recent episode of the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? Len said Doors were never locked, it was lovely, it was a true community.
