Keith Richards lived Here

Keith Richards spent his teen years on this estate

In 1955 Keith and his family moved into 6 Spielman Road on the new Temple Hill council estate.

Keith has gone on to describe this new place as 'a fucking soul-destroying concrete jungle...'. It was there that he spent the majority of his childhood & teens.

It was also here that he at the age of 10 he lived dangerously and fearfully in a constant battle against bully's and how he could beat these horrid kids. Befriending a bigger boy as a minder in return for doing his homework, Keith soon got his own back and the bullying stopped.

Dartford's Temple Hill Estate was developed in response to the post-Second World War housing crisis. In 1945, many local families who had been bombed-out during the war were accommodated in prefabricated bungalows at Princes Road, and in temporary accommodation. There was an urgent need for mass good-quality housing in the local area. The council decided to develop a new housing estate on the outskirts of Dartford, which would almost be self-sufficient, in essence, a town in miniature, with shops, social and sports facilities and an extensive range of traditional houses and flats. The intention was to build an estate incorporating 1,800 family units.

Location: 6 Spielman Road, Temple Hill, DA1 5EZ
