The Rolling Stones First Gig
This is where the Stones first played on stage in 1962
For four decades, 'The Marquee Club' witnessed the birth most of the legendary rock and pop band and artists, becoming the most important place for the jazz and rhythm & blues scenes in London.
During the 60's a new generation of British rhythm and blues bands, such as the Rolling Stones, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, the Yardbirds, and the Animals forged the comming of a new era in pop music at the Marquee.
In fact it was here on July 12 1962, that Mick, Brian and Keith (along with Tony Chapman, Dick Taylor & Ian Stewart) filled in for Alexis Korner's band and took to the stage at the Marque as The Rolling Stones.
And why 'The Rolling Stones'...well after hanging on the phone booking a gig and trying to think of a name, the only record to hand for Mick, Keith, Brian and Ian Stewart and was Muddy Walters 'The Best of Muddy Walters', and the first track...'Rollin' Stone'.
