Teddy Sheringham lived here

The street where England striker Teddy Sheringham grew up.

Former Tottenham and England striker Teddy Sheringham was born here in Highams Park/Woodford Green. He grew up here with his older brother Jimmy, mum Shirley, and football mad policeman Dad Paul. They used to play together in the alley between his house and the next door's house.

He attended local primary school Selwyn Primary School, but his first proper game was for the local Cubs team where he played as a winger in his first game. Before long he was playing for the third year at school while only in the first year.

In his autobiography he says the highlight of his early years was scoring 5 in the 8-1 cup final win in the Birmingham Cup in Walthamstow. He went on to play for a Waltham Forest district team and because he was so skinny he needed to work hard and take every opportunity when it came his way.

Location: Malvern Avenue, Highams Park
