The King and Tinker

Enfield country boozer that James I drank in!

It is rumoured that King James the First (1566-1625) once boozed in Enfield. The King and Tinker pub here was apparently named after King James.

The story goes that he lost his courtiers whilst hunting, and decided to take refuge in an alehouse. Here he shared his drinks with a tinker - who only realised he had the King of England for a drinking partner when the courtiers came back and found him! Right here on the North end of Enfield!

The pub is indeed pretty old and the story comes from an ancient ballad.
