Royal Artillery Barracks

The longest Georgian building in Britain are these Barracks.

The Royal Artillery Barracks, the longest Georgian building in Britain, was the home of the Royal Artillery. The last regiment, 16 Regiment, departed in July 2007.

Built in 1776, the facade was extended to be more than a fifth of a mile long by 1807. It capably housed over 3000 troops.

The Board of Ordnance required its Artillery and Engineers officers to obtain a formal military education, thus this became the elite training and housing venue in Britain.

The shooting events at the 2012 London Summer Olympics and Paralympics were held at a temporary pop-up venue here.
