Lord Lucan was born here
The mysterious Lord Lucan was born here.
The future Lord Lucan was born as Richard John Bingham here on 18 December 1934. He was the second child and eldest son of George Bingham, the 6th Earl of Lucan, and his wife Kaitlin Elizabeth Anne Dawson.
When he was five war broke out and he and his sister Jane were evacuated to the safety of Wales, before the whole family moved the following year to Toronto for five years.
They returned to find Britain war-torn, their house on Cheyne Walk had been bombed and the house at 22 Eaton Square had had its windows blown out.
He went to school at Eton and then onto National Service at the age of 19, before returning to work in banking, socialising and gambling. He led the high life and was once even considered for the film role of James Bond!
Then he disappeared in the aftermath of the murder of his children's nanny Sandra Rivett in 1974, and the attack on Lady Lucan.
