Silicon Roundabout

The UK's grimy version of Silicon Valley.

Old Street Roundabout is a large roundabout located in East London at the junction of Old Street and City Road.

The sunken mini-shopping complex in the underpass in the middle of the roundabout is named St. Agnes Well, after an ancient well about 200 metres to the east.

Colloquially it has become known as Silicon Roundabout, due to the prominence of British web-based companies there. The nickname was coined by Dopplr's Chief Technical Officer Matt Biddulph in 2008 when he said 'Silicon Roundabout': the ever-growing community of fun startups in London's Old Street area.
